Art is incredibly important to me. It serves as a reflection of ourselves and our society. It can be used to give a voice to the people who can’t do it themselves and it can also be cathartic for people who need the therapy. Therapy was why I wrote this album. I’m naturally a pretty happy optimistic person but I just grew up always feeling bad about myself because everyone would just tell me how shitty I was at everything. People like my classmates, my own family and whatever. It just felt like I was always wrong. All these feelings would pretty much fester and I had to let it out so they’re not inside me anymore and that’s what STAY LUSH is about. And you’ll notice actually how the themes of the album start of negative and progress positively as the album moves forward. It’s a reminder to constantly be blooming.

The flowers that you see on the album cover (which were arranged by my ultra-talented friend Bailley Starkey) physically represents my mind where each flower represent a piece of who I am. As long as I nurture those pieces of myself the flowerbed of my mind will stay lush (makes sense right?) And the gold chains you see laced all around the flowers is my mind when I feel totally at peak with everything.

This is also why I do my For the Culture Canada Podcast because I want more people to make art. I want more people to express the gift of creating things because to me art genuinely makes the world a better place. Whether it be to remedy a person’s psyche or just to make the world a more enjoyable place, art can be a strong focal point.

Even though this album serves as mostly a reminder to myself just remember after every winter the flowers always come back 🌺
